Bulgarian Courses
If you want to learn Bulgarian there is no better place than International House Sofia.
We understand that language needs to be experienced as well as useful in a variety of situations. Our teachers use contemporary language teaching methodologies, in realistic situations, through an interesting variety of materials, role plays and multimedia. You will also practice reading and writing in Cyrillic. Our experienced and active teachers personalize the lessons to your specific needs.
Bulgarian for Beginners (CEF A1)
Dates: 20 September to 14 November (32 hours)
Days: Monday and Wednesday
Times: 18.30 to 20.30
Groups: 6 people maximum
Venue: International House, 82 Han Omurtag, Sofia
Intermediate Bulgarian (CEF B1)
Dates: 21 June to 11 November (32 hours)
Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Times: 18.30 to 20.30
Groups: 6 people maximum
The fee includes the course book, certificate and updates on your progress. Social events are organized for further practice. You’re welcome to join in.
Intensive summer courses
Our courses are 25 hours per week (5 hours x 5 days)
If you are coming from outside Bulgaria we can arrange accommodation, transport, an introduction to Bulgaria (if this is your first time) and a social / cultural programme to fully immerse yourself into the richness of Bulgaria’s history, culture and language.
Course objectives
By the end of the Beginner (CEF A1) course you should be able to:

You can understand familiar words and phrases about yourself, your family, and concrete situations you know well.

You can understand familiar words and sentences, for example on notices and posters.

You can interact in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and repeats themselves. You can ask and answer simple questions and use simple sentences to describe people you know, etc.

You can write a short postcard. You can fill in a form with personal details.
By the end of the Intermediate (CEF B1) course you should be able to:

You can understand the main points when listening to a native speaker if the topic is familiar, which includes listening to radio or television.

You can understand texts which contain high frequency or job-related vocabulary, as well as descriptions of feelings or wishes.

You can manage in most travel situations. You can join in discussions without preparation if the topic is familiar, giving reasons and explanations, and narrating an event.

You can write a short connected text on a familiar topic, which includes personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
